In a conversation with Claudia Dichter, art critic and presenter at WDR, Sabine Weichel-Kickert presents her new book THE FAMILY OF MAN im Dialog mit der TEUTLOFF COLLECTION.
She discusses how the iconic exhibition THE FAMILY OF MAN inspired Lutz Teutloff's private collection of contemporary photography and reveals some of the marketing strategies behind the TEUTLOFF COLLECTION. She also explains how these strategies have influenced heritage education for future generations. She successfully transferred the TEUTLOFF COLLECTION to the Steichen Collections at CNA Luxembourg.
Biographies
Dr. phil. Sabine Weichel-Kickert has been a freelance curator and art educator since 1997. She established and managed the TEUTLOFF COLLECTION, facilitating its transfer to the UNESCO World Documentary Heritage THE FAMILY OF MAN, CNA Steichen Collections, Luxembourg. She wrote her doctoral thesis on the dialogue between the two collections in 2018. Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Paderborn, Faculty of Cultural Studies, collaboration in the research network of historical children's drawing archives and their inclusion in the UNESCO World Documentary Heritage Register. Member of the interdisciplinary working group World Heritage Education.
Claudia Dichter studied art history, German language and literature, and philosophy in Aachen and Cologne. Since 1992, she has worked as an author and art critic for WDR, presenting the cultural program Scala on WDR5 from 2002 to 2025. Since 2019, she is presented the cultural program Resonanzen on WDR3. She has curated various exhibitions, including: The Message. Das Medium als Künstler, Museum Bochum, 2008; Secret Universe, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin, 2011 – 2013; Outer Space. Faszination Universum, Bundeskunsthalle, Bonn 2014. Dichter lives and works as a freelance journalist, presenter and curator in Cologne.
