During three days, you will explore the possibilities offered by visual stories together with visual editor Marc Prüst, based on your own work and examples from practice. You will learn more about the concept of the premise, and how you can use it for your project. Different forms of visual storytelling and how they fit with different presentation methods are discussed. We discuss how you can organize the editing of your work and which products you can develop based on the story you have to tell. We also discuss various revenue models based on appealing and inspiring practical examples.
The workshop consists of lectures, practical workshop sessions, individual working session, individual and group feedback meetings and portfolio reviews.
On day 1 we lay the foundations for this project, get to know each other, and discuss the merits of having a message and the importance of gaining access to platforms. We also discuss the concept of the premise, and we start working on defining the project premise.
Day 2 we finalize the premise to work with for each project and look at different formats of visual storytelling and how to edit for these formats. Also, we discuss the various platforms available to photographers and if there are business models that can be applied. After this session the students start working on a project: they either shoot or they work with their existing body of work. A combination is also possible.
On day 3 we look at ways to connect to the audience and use the project premise to see how branding and marketing can be used to promote a project. We look at the final presentations of the projects by making final edits and presentations and we wrap up the workshop as a group.
